St Twrog's Church, Llanwnda LL54 5UA

The church congregations of the ancient parishes of Llanwnda and Llandwrog have grown to be a united  community whose worship alternates between St Gwyndaf’s and St Twrog’s Churches.

It is said that Gwyndaf’s father, Emyr, travelled from Brittany and founded a monastery on Bardsey in the 5th century in partnership with Engan, great-grandson of Cunedda Wledig, King of Gwynedd.  The shrine of St Gwyndaf at Llanwnda became the first sacred stopping place for pilgrims on the road from Caernarfon to Bardsey.

The present church is a mid 19th century neo-Norman building and was designed by architect George Alexander of London to replace the mediaeval stone church which previously stood here.
