Llanllyfni

St Rhedyw's Church, Llanllyfni LL54 6SG

The literal meaning of Dyffryn Nantlle is 'Valley of the Brook of Lleu'. Lleu is one of the heroes of the Mabinogion and the scenery here is dramatic with a rich cultural and historical heritage.

Of our two church buildings in Dyffryn Nantlle, Llanllyfni beside the River Llyfni is said to be the most ancient of all Welsh Llans. The church is dedicated to the fourth century Saint Rhedyw whose peregrination took him from Wales to France, where he became a leader of the church in Gaul.

A highlight of our church year here is the annual Plygain Carol Service - Llanllyfni is one of only a few locations in Wales where these traditional unaccompanied 'cock-crow' carols continue to be sung at first light on Christmas morning.
