Pathways
You don’t have to go far round here before you come across an ancient Llan or Ffynnon – a holy place associated with one of the early Celtic saints. The landscape is criss-crossed with ancient pilgrim ways. In recent years, two important paths have been reestablished. The North Wales Pilgrim Way passes close to all of our six churches and is a route from St Winifred’s Well to the island of Enlli. St Cadfan’s way is a southern route to Enlli, starting on Cardigan Bay at Tywyn.
In the middle ages, Clynnog Fawr, with its church and well dedicated to Beuno, was an important destination for pilgrims, especially those seeking healing. It would also have been a place of rest and refreshment for those preparing to journey over the trinity of hills known as Yr Eifl and onwards to Enlli.
These days many pilgrims come to Clynnog Fawr annually. We aim to keep the doors of St Beuno’s Church open 365 days a year and you are most welcome to visit – whether you wish to join us for Pilgrim Prayers or Sunday worship, or discover the church quietly on your own.
We also welcome groups and may be able to organise a short tour or guided walk – please get in touch and we will see what we can do to help.
